Surge Protectors are the only efficient solution against transient overvoltages due to lightning or to switching phenomena. A surge arrester works by diverting the extra voltage into the earth wire, rather than flowing through the electronic devices, while at the same time allowing the normal voltage to continue along its path. When a powerful surge or a lightning strikes a particular electrical system, it damages the whole system and any electrical devices connected to the system. Electrical devices work at a certain voltage range. When these devices receive a voltage way higher than the specified voltage sufficient for their operation, they blow up or get damaged. Current standards define three categories of surge protective devices for low-voltage electrical installations:

Type 1+2: These devices are capable of discharging a very high lightning current. They should install in the main electrical switchboard. It is recommended to install an external lightning protection system for complete protection of your home and electronic equipments.

Type 2: These are surge protective devices designed to discharge the currents generated by indirect lightning strokes and causing induced or conducted overvoltages on the power distribution network. They are installed in the Sub Distribution Board.
